When it's all said and done

Image
First off I wanted to say Happy Olympics to everyone! I did watch the opening ceremony last night and it was somewhat boring in my opinion but they definitely had some good ideas with the history of the UK and technology acts they did. The introduction of the countries was very VERY fast. You look away one second and you've jumped from Russia to Switzerland! I do wish that had been stretched out a little bit, but still well done. The fireworks at the end were very celebratory as well. This is actually the first year I've ever seen the opening ceremony of the Olympics and it was a heartwarming experience. I always get all tingly when so many different countries and different kinds of people come together to celebrate something international! Unfortunately, Rafael Nadal, my favorite tennis player and 2008 gold medal winner, will not be playing this year because of an injury. Yes, I know he does get injured a lot and people mock both him for it and me for liking him so

Electronic Nicotine

So yesterday I completed the AlcoholEdu course online for school and it was, well, not very useful. Personally, I'm not planning on drinking at college at all, so it didn't really affect me at all which, in this case, is probably a good thing. But honestly, for the people who do plan to drink at college, I don't think it'll do much either. Maybe it'll help them help their friend not drink and drive by secretly taking his car keys or deciding to band together a group of (drunk) friends to stop two creepy guys from taking their friend to "the bedroom." The course is pretty redundant of everything we've been taught in high school for the past four years and beyond and if people weren't listening then, what makes them think kids would listen or read words now? Now when they could just Google every question on the final exam if four years of pounding it into our brains hasn't been enough? Good effort though, plus amusing videos with bad a

Arts&Crafts

Like I said in the last post, I've been crafting and drawing a lot lately and I've shared some of my creations on facebook but I thought I'd show them all and ask for any other cool ideas too. It's been fun and made me feel creative even though that's "been systematically chipped apart by years of studying inorganic chemistry and charting lipids." (A quote from Ann Patchett's  State of Wonder , Duke's summer reading book. Except the charting lipids part.) I used to draw all the time back in the 9th grade but it's recently all come back now that I actually have time to do stuff. What I hate is that I can't drive to go get supplies because I lack a license and so I have to use what I have at home which makes everything super ghetto.. But anyway, here's a couple of art projects I've been working on. The picture at the top of this blog is actually one of them, inspired by:  http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2011/08/song-

Just Another Ordinary Day

So what exactly is there to do on a sunny summer day in Jersey exactly 29 days before I move into college? Not much when I lack a driver's license, have almost zero people to play tennis with, have a pubescent sister to take care of, and have decided that Stumbleupon is not the healthiest way to spend hours of my time. I've been mostly occupying my time by starting to pack for college, starting to pack for moving to MA, and crafting. Lots of crafting. But  the point I'm getting to was that I figured I would create a blog that I would hopefully be able to keep through college describing a new lifestyle that I've subconsciously decided to try out: fearless. Now, this doesn't mean I'll be jumping out of planes and turning in late assignments (*shudder*) but I'll be trying out things that I would have been afraid or embarrassed to in high school. If you know me, you know I've been on a roller coaster of personalities in the past few years, an
